Cognizant is on track to hire 1,500 US college graduates by the end of 2026, expanding early-career programmes designed to develop the next generation of AI professionals and engineers.
HOMEGROWN TALENT
As artificial intelligence (AI) reshapes industries and transforms the future of work, Cognizant is strengthening its investment in homegrown talent with plans to hire 1,500 college graduates across the US by the end of 2026.
The recruits will join the company’s core technology services business, engineering subsidiary Belcan, and the newly launched Frontier Engineers programme, reinforcing Cognizant’s long-term strategy to build an AI-ready workforce while expanding its domestic talent pipeline.
The announcement follows a period of significant global recruitment, with Cognizant having hired approximately 27,000 campus graduates since 2025. The latest US intake reflects the company’s growing commitment to recruiting, training, and engaging talent through an expanded network of hubs across multiple locations.
“America’s next generation of technologists will define how AI gets built, deployed, and governed,” said Ravi Kumar S, CEO of Cognizant.
“Hiring 1,500 college graduates in the United States this year is both a workforce investment and a statement of confidence in American talent and a recognition that the AI-builder ramp-up begins on campus. We are equipping these graduates with the skills, mentorship, and real-world experience to become the backbone of the AI economy.”
DEVELOPING THE AI PIPELINE
Cognizant’s early-career strategy engages students throughout their university journey, with recruiters and mentors active across more than 40 US universities.
Its flagship Fusion Internship programme combines project-based work with AI-enabled learning, mentorship, leadership sessions, and collaborative cohort experiences across major North American cities. Designed as a key pathway into permanent roles, the programme was recognised in Vault’s 2026 Best Internships list.
The company also operates Ignite and Elevate, programmes that introduce first and second-year students to career development opportunities, professional skills, and structured preparation for future internships.
Alongside these initiatives, Cognizant has introduced Frontier Engineers, an accelerated programme aimed at high-performing technical graduates. Participants will work directly with clients on advanced AI projects, helping organisations redesign business processes, identify opportunities for AI adoption, and improve operational performance.
Meanwhile, Cognizant continues to expand its registered apprenticeship programme, delivered in partnership with the US Department of Labor. The earn-while-you-learn initiative combines technical instruction with mentoring, coaching, and practical workplace experience.
STRENGTHENING UNIVERSITY PARTNERSHIPS
The company maintains close relationships with universities including the University of Georgia, Arizona State University, and the University of Kentucky, where academic leaders have highlighted the importance of industry collaboration in preparing students for AI-driven careers.
Santanu Chatterjee, Dean and Dr. Harold A. Black Distinguished Professor at the University of Georgia Terry College of Business, said collaborations between employers and universities are becoming increasingly important as AI transforms industries, helping graduates develop both technological expertise and the leadership, communication, and judgement skills employers require.
Arizona State University’s Raghu Santanam described Cognizant’s long-standing engagement with students and its recruitment from both technical and non-technical disciplines as “a model for how companies can help close the talent gap in the AI era”.
The University of Kentucky also welcomed opportunities to deepen its relationship with Belcan, while Safal Partners praised Cognizant’s apprenticeship programme for creating structured pathways into technology careers at a time when AI capabilities are becoming essential across virtually every occupation.
INVESTING IN LONG-TERM GROWTH
Cognizant’s 2026 graduate intake will include candidates from both technical and non-technical backgrounds, reflecting the company’s belief that interdisciplinary talent, supported by robust training and development, creates adaptable professionals equipped for the AI era.
The company also recruits first-generation college graduates and candidates from underrepresented communities, noting that more than 16,000 current associates have left and later returned to Cognizant, underscoring the strength of its culture and long-term career opportunities.
